Zus Coffee
Is ZUS COFFEE in trouble? Its 2026 IPO just got pushed to 2027 due to "bad financial timing" or is it bad Luck...
In 2019 in Selangor, Malaysia, Ian Chua Seng Yee started Zus Coffee with the idea of delivering premium coffee through a convenient, app-first, robust digital eco system.
KWAP, who manages roughly $30B in retirement assets, is an LP with KV Asia and partner with PT Kapal Api Global to form 'Kopi Krafter' - which now owns 26% of Zus Coffee.
KV Asia led a consortium to help fund ZUS COFFEE's expansion totaling $57M with only $11.5M for the company's expansion plans and $45.8M used to cash out early shareholders ahead of the IPO.
Zus was valued near $300M during the consortium round and now the 2026 IPO target is worth $1.45B. But as Luckin Coffee entered Malaysia in January 2025, a price war is the last thing Zus Coffee needs.
At 7.8% net margins, Zus can't even afford a price war. Yet, Hextar Industries Berhad, Luckin Coffee's Malaysian franchisee, is already 118 stores into its 200 store target by 2028.
Luck just might not be on Zus's side today.
