Vertex Ventures SE Asia & India spotted Grab before anyone knew what it was. Is this Malaysian Coffee Startup Koppiku Next? Koppiku was founded in 2023 by Dr Rajiv Bhanot who started an Airstream trailer in Mont Kiara, KL selling $1.05 coffee. Vertex Ventures led a seed round joined by Reshape Ventures and other angel investors raising $2.5M at a $8.8M valuation which helped open 55 stores in 3 years. While their competitors, ZUS COFFEE have 726 stores, Kopi Kenangan at 158 and Gigi Coffee at 150. Koppiku operates on fixed kisok stations and truck models throughout KL, Selangor and Pahang. Although Koppiku may not be a giant yet it's competing with them. Luckin coffee has amassed 110+ stores and it has a committed expansion capital at $25M. Vertex found Grab when it wasn't even called Grab. Could they be right about Koppiku too?
