FLASH COFFEE RE-ENTERING?
Flash Coffee left Singapore with $11.5M debt then rebranded in Indonesia with 100% store profitability.
Flash coffee, born in Indonesia in 2019 was founded by David Brunier and Sebastian Hannecker with an idea of being the Starbucks of Tech.
In Singapore, Flash coffee was charging $3-5 for what Singaporeans deemed as ‘drain water’. In Thailand however, Flash Coffee Thailand was bought by Turn Capital 龍丞資本 in 2023 for an undisclosed price but they might’ve gotten a great deal considering they surpassed their 100 store goal by reaching 220+.
Back home, White Star Capital led a complete turnaround takeover of leadership and brand direction. They replaced the founders with Former Foodpanda CEO Jakob Angele, as Executive Chairman and Bardon Matthew, former Fore Coffee VP, as CEO.
As of June 2026, their new team tagged the brand "Kebanggaan Indonesia" - proudly Indonesian, as they rolled out their 150 sqm sit-down stores with lounge chairs, work desks, and wood with biophilic greenery that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere to customers.
According to their financial updates: Every. Single. Active Flash Coffee Store in Indonesia is operating profitably as their average store level EBITDA sits at an impressive 22%.
As for the original founders today, they still hold a minority stake, but repurposed their app infrastructure to launch Cata focusing on B2B white label tech sales to other F&B founders in the region.
Safe to say, they were gone in a Flash.
