AHA Coffee Branded Sidewalk Coffee Culture in Vietnam Then it's Investors Took the Idea and made KAFA Café Culture Instead.
With a Strong passion for coffee, Nguyễn Mạnh Hà started selling roasted beans as a first-year university student in the '90s. After 11 years in the supply chain business, he opened the first Aha Coffee store in Trần Huy Liệu, Hanoi.
In Vietnam, the Cà Phê Vỉa Hè 'Sidewalk Coffee ' was a ritual. But it was also cheap, profitable and 'tasty'.
The coffee they sold consisted of corn, roasted soybeans, and chemical flavourings. While AHA's was 100% roasted robusta coffee.
But customers didn't know what 'clean coffee was'... So much so, they compared AHA's coffee as 'too watery or lacking in flavour'. Thus leading to a very slow success for the next decade and a half of AHA Coffee.
With bets that the consumers and anxious locals getting more concerned with whats in the local street coffee. Trần Xuân Diễm, opened 6 out of 10 stores of AHA Coffee, in high foot traffic locations.
Only after for Hà to realise, once Diễm found success, in only 2 days - he ripped out the AHA Coffee logo and replaced them with KAFA Café.
Now with 45+ stores, AHA coffee lost its partner but also its customers to a rival he built.
